This pattern is a smaller version of my reversible critter amigurumi that I have recently been obsessed with making. With a simple flip, you change its mood from perky to grumpy!
This base pattern will show you how to make a brown bear but once you understand how the construction works you can take the same body base, alter the colours, add any desired mood, or change up the ears to make whatever animal you can think of!
MATERIALS
Worsted/Medium weight yarn – brown (B), black (BL)
size 7 (4.0 mm) crochet hook
scissors, yarn needle
black sewing thread, sewing needle
white felt, black felt, hole punch, white glue
ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
inc = single crochet 2 into the same stitch
dec = decrease over next two stitches (single crochet 2 stitches together or use invisible decrease)
BODY/BASE
R1 With B, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 inc in each st around (12)
R3 (sc 1, inc) six times (18)
R4 (sc 2, inc) six times (24)
R5 (sc 3, inc) six times (30)
R6-9 sc in each st around (30)
R10 (sc 4, inc) six times (36)
R11-19 sc in each st around (36)
R20 (sc 4, dec) six times (30)
R21-24 sc in each st around (30)
R25 (sc 3, dec) six times (24)
R26 (sc 2, dec) six times (18)
R27 (sc 1, dec) six times (12)

Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing. Sew the opening closed.
MUZZLE (Make 2)
R1 With B, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 inc in each st around (12)
R3 (sc 2, inc) two times, (inc, sc 2) two times (16)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing.
Use black yarn to embroider a nose and a mouth on the muzzle. The mouth can be made to frown or smile.
Sew the muzzles to the body as shown. The tops of the muzzle should be right below R6 on either end of the body.
Cut eyes out of black felt using the following templates and sew them beside the muzzles with black sewing thread.
Use a hole punch to punch out four circles out of white felt. Glue the circles to the eyes.
Pull the sides of the body apart while simultaneously pushing on side of the body up.
EAR (Make 4)
R1 With B, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 inc in each st around (12)
R3 (sc 2, inc) four times (16)
R4 sc in each st around (16)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing. Sew the ears to the top of the head.
Flip the piece inside out and sew the ears to the other face.
FOOT (Make 4)
R1 With B, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 (sc 1, inc) three times (9)
R3 sc in each st around (9)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing. Sew the feet to the body as shown.
