This year marks the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. This series has been immensely influential in my life. I was a nerdy 10-year-old kid when I dove into the world Pokémon Blue for the first time and I still have that same sense of wonder and excitement with each new Pokémon game.
I got into crocheting BECAUSE I wanted to make Pokémon. For almost a decade now, I have been crocheting my favourite Pokémon over and over again. I’ve been able to share my love of Pokémon and crocheting and connect with people all over the world.
To celebrate Pokémon’s birthday, I want to share this Pikachu Keychain pattern with you all. Here’s to another 25 years.

MATERIALS
Medium/worsted weight yarn – yellow (Y), black (B), red (R)
Size 8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
Scissors, yarn needle, pliers
Polyester fibrefill
Two 8.0 mm safety eyes (painted white)
Black felt, white glue
Keychain ring
ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
inc = single crochet 2 into the same stitch
dec = decrease over next two stitches (single crochet 2 stitches together or use invisible decrease)
HEAD
R1 With Y, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 inc in each st around (12)
R3 (sc 1 , inc) six times (18)
R4 (sc 2, inc) six times (24)
R5-7 sc in each st around (24)
R8 (sc 3, inc) six times (30)
R9-10 sc in each st around (30)
R11 (sc 3, dec) six times (24)
R12 (sc 2, dec) six times (18)
R13 (sc 1, dec) six times (12)
Cut two circles out of black felt. Insert the safety eyes through the felt.
Insert the safety eyes below R8.
R14 dec six times (6)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a short yarn tail and sew the opening closed.
Glue the felt to the head.
EAR (Make 2)
R1 With B, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
R2 (sc 1, inc) three times (9)
R3 sc in each st around (9)
R4 (sc 2, inc) three times (12)
R5 With Y, sc in each st around (12)
R6-7 sc in each st around (12)
R8 (sc 4, dec) two times (10)
R9 sc in each st around (10)
R10 (sc 3, dec) two times (8)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing.
CHEEK (Make 2)
R1 With R, sc 6 in magic ring (6)
Finish with a sl st. Cut a long yarn tail for sewing.
ASSEMBLY
Sew the cheeks to the sides of the head.
Sew the ears to the top of the head.
Attach the keychain ring to the top of the head.
