Most of the amigurumi that I design are worked in the round so this pattern is a little different because it’s worked flat. The rainbow cloud is made up of two separate pieces with the rainbow worked in rows and the cloud worked in rounds.

The yarn that I used is called Paintbox Cotton Aran (Dusty Lilac, Sailor Blue, Grass Green, Buttercup Yellow, Blood Orange, Pillar Red, Paper White), which I purchased HERE.

I played around with the rainbow design quite a bit because I wanted each stripe to have a crisp, neat edge. I’m not 100% sure if these are official terms but I used two new techniques, scfb (single crochet from behind) and BLO (behind loop only).

The scfb is working a single crochet by inserting your hook from the back of the stitch rather than going through the front.

When working BLO, instead of inserting the hook into the “V” loops of the stitch (A), you want to insert your hook into the loop behind those “V” loops (B).

If you’re finding it a bit tricky, I’ve made video tutorial to accompany this pattern.
